Question

i am thinking about doing consulting work helping people

Sent to Legal Experts December 28, 2005 9:35 p.m.

I am thinking about doing consulting work, helping people start their own business. For now, since there will be no office, I am considering myself as Customer (name blocked for privacy). Does that mean I have to get some kind of liability insurance or be bonded to give advice. Thanks for your help

REPLIED Check Mark

That depends on which date you reside in. Contact the office of your state's Secretary Of State. They generally handle business licensure and can tell you whether bonding is required.

By the way, I highly recommend that you obtain some sort of bond, or malpractice insurance -- even if bonding is not a requirement. It could literally save your shirt (along with the rest of your property) if you were ever successfully sued by dissatisfied client.

Let me know if you need more input. If not, thanks for the opportunity to assist you... Please honor my efforts by Clicking the green 'Accept' button (located within this post -- above-right). Adding a bonus -- should you wish to do so -- would be warmly welcomed.

Good Luck!

Steve
