I am curious. Is it ever ok to break a law. Example, a person runs a red light to avoid an accident. The individual is given a ticket for running the light. Is it, or can it be deemed ok to break this traffic law?

There, of couse, is no written "law" granting an individual the "right to break a law" However, if you opt to go to court on the ticket you can offer your "mitigating" circumstances as a defense. You should be able to support your actions with witnesses and other documentation. A trier of fact will take all mitigation factors into consideration - if nothing else, you could walk away with just a fine and no points.
