can you be charged with a crime if you are not arrested?

nothing. apparently an arrest showed up on a background check but i was only detained, not arrested. i argued the charge and it was dismissed.

You can be indicted for a crime without ever being arrested. This means the grand jury issues an indicted. To be officially charged with the crime, you would be arrested for it in order to be able to defend your rights.

Reply to Justice For All's Post: ok. but this was for interferring with a possible arrest of someone else. the officer told me to back away and when i didn't immediately do so, he said i was being written up for obstructing an officer. i was placed in cuffs, however i was only detained and never taken in. so how could i have ever been charged? again, the charges were dropped.
