Reply to Jen Sterling's Post: SHE IS 81 IN A NURSING HOME WITH A STROKE UNLIKELY TO EVER GET OUT. I CAN NO LONGER AFFORD TO PAY FOR A STORAGE UNIT. I RECENTLY GOT A BIGGER APARTMENT WITH A BASEMENT SO I HAVE THE ITEMS HERE BUT FOR SIX MONTHS WHILE I WASN'T WORKING I PAID FOR THE UNIT WITH MY CHARGE CARD(ALSO ON THE RECIPT)NOW I CANT PAY THAT BILL AND WOULD LIKE TO SELL SOME OF THE ITEMS TO PAY THAT OFF. SO WHERE SO I STAND?

Hello,

Typically, you would need to notify the owner of the items of your intent to sell if they are not retrieved and/or the storage fees are paid in a certain period of time. The easiest method would be if your aunt willing to simply sign the items over to you. However, in Pennsylvania, property is considered unclaimed/abandoned after 5 years.

In general, unclaimed property in Pennsylvania is governed by Pennsylvania's Disposition of Abandoned and Unclaimed Property Act, 72 P.S. 1301.1-1301.29. (Reference)
