Hello,
I was attending Strayer University, received a degree in Business Management, was looking at the programs and was interested in a degree program also in International Management. So I talked to my counsler and she said I could enroll in that program right away and would only need 5 more classes to finish that program too. So I decided to enroll in a BS in International Management, and after that enter into a Master's program. Everything was agreeing with what I was told by my counsler, even the quarterly progress reports, telling a person what classes they have attended and what they have left also agreed along with 2 other counslers. I finally completed the required classes, sent in the money for my degree and then I was told that I would have to take 7 more classes. I have tried to work something out with the assistant dean for the last 5 months. Now, she will not evey answer or return the calls along with the emails. They said it states in the handbook that I

I have tried contacting the assistant dean numerous times, each time she will say she has to review the information. never calling or e mailing me back. I took 5 classes over $1,300 a class plus books, time and lost time in that I would have been working on my Master's program. Plus money lost in the degree that I would have been able to include on my resume.

Reply to Richard V. Licata's Post: Actually it is in the school catalog not the student handbook it states people going for a second degree will have to take 12 courses extra. However, this was never stated by 3 counslers, and never discovered till after I took the 5 classes which is what I was told I only needed. Even the counsler did not know till I called and asked them after I sent in the money to receive my diploma and the school finally contacted me 6 weeks later by a letter. I have copies of all my e mails with the one counsler, I also have copies of my quarterly transcript which tells me what I have completed and what is needed to finish my degree program.

You have all the proof you need to compel the school to award your degree. There must be a procedure used by the school in such situations. Prepare a presentation using the procedure. Include copies of all your emails, grade reports with notices as to courses remaining for degree requirements, and present SIGNED STATEMENTS FROM THE COUNSELORS as to the specific dates and contents of conversations you had with them regarding the requirements. Demand a full IN PERSON hearing on the matter. If the school does not award the degree, you have a lawsuit against them. Hopefully it won't get to that but if it did, you would sue for a judgment compelling the awarding of the degree as well as money damages suffered for the delay in your job/career path because you did not have the degree on your resume.
