Can I bring a lawsuit against a co-worker for slander? Said co-worker is spreading vicious lies that could potentially cause irreparable damage to my reputation and possibly jeopordize current & future employment. I fear that some damage may already have occurred and have found no other way to stop this person.

Reply to sdee's Post: These suggestions have already been followed. Now what I really need to know are my legal options...if any. Thanks so much for your time.

What line of business are you in? It is difficult to sue for potential damages. Am I to assume then that you have your documentation?
There are legal options but I need to know what line of work you are in.
There are some legal avenues you can take. I don't know enough about the case to not be shooting in the dark and suggest something that would ruin any future litigation. These kind of lawsuits are difficult to establish. Can you be more specific? Thank You.

Reply to sdee's Post: I am an accountant/office manager at a construction business. Documentation at this point would consist of testimony from fellow employees. I am not concerned about 'getting' any money. I just want a legal avenue to make this employee stop. Once a reputation is ruined in the accounting field it can be next to impossible to recover. We are dealing with a 'poisonous' personality here, the type of person that is not going to stop until 'forced' to do so; the type of person that enjoys hurting others in any manner possible. The owner is getting ready to retire and is basically not concerned about anything beyond that; I don't think he even sees the 'serious' aspect of it all. My economic future is at stake here. I will gladly pay more than I have posted on this site for help with this matter.
