Are there any laws in NYS which prohibit flags from foriegn nations (Italy) to be hung in a firehouse?

Dear rfd,

Since the firehouse is a government building, a foreign flag cannot be flown without the presence of the U.S. flag.

the exception would be, if you are bunking there, you would be able to display the Italian flag in your bunk area.

This is a volunteer organization, where the American and State flags are flown outside on the flag poles. We have an Italian Flag just tacked to the wall inside the engine bay which is not public property.   This is still ok?

This is the Roosevelt Fire Department Engine Company #1. We are in the town of Hyde Park, NY 12538. Most of our funding comes from the taxpayers in the town of Hyde park, as well as some federal grants we receive from time to time. I understand we are a government entity in some way shape or form, however, doesn't this impact the Bill of Rights? I see this as a freedom of expression or freedom of speech issue. The American Flag is present, as well as the state flag, therefore, I see no action that can be taken to make us remove it. What am I missing..
