can a parent chose the 504 or do they have to accept the IEP. It doesn't say anything about that there as to my rights for the 504.

God bless you I am so happy I came accross you. I am in illinois. I have a soon to be 10 year old in fourth grade wth serve dyslexia and dysgraphia. He is in 4th grade but reads at a 2nd grade level. I had to pay $1,200 myself to have him tested since his last school lied to me and told me for 26 weeks that they were testing him. When they were done they just wanted me to dope him up for ADHD. Which he does not have he was tested. Worth every penny too!

I seem to have a school that is looks like they are wanting to help, but I am now getting confliciting information. My testing center, which came highly recommened by Susan Barton a International leader in Dyslexia, doesn't think he should have the IEP. They beleive he should have the 504.

The principal told me that when they were done doing their evaluation that I could reject the IEP and choose the 504, but from reading it looks like I was lied to again. The principal also tells me that Illinos law doesn't acknowlodge the word dyslexia in their education laws again I was lied to. I beleive Federal laws exceeds state law right?

I am just a mother trying to do the best for my kids. I am all they have. Their father commited suicide two years ago. I am not rich but would happily spent every penny I have for them. I feel like I failed my son by letting that last school trick me and I am just trying to make sure it doesn't happen again. I want to make sure I get my son what he needs and what is best for him.

I look forward to any help you wife may have tonight

I have no problem with the special education label for some reason my testing center does. They say the phonics systems in special ed won't work. The 504 won't give the method needed either. I am paying out of pocket for that now.

You have helped me a great deal. Thank you!
