Reply to Ed Johnson's Post: Yes, we are incorporated, our organization is,
Garrison Correspondence, Inc. We have 501(c)3 status. I was told by a grant writer that if we write a charter, and submit it to the state we would be placed on a list that's used by foundations and other grant givers to help determine who gets a grant. I haven't been able to find out anymore information on it.

Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy),

The Grants all have thier own requirments. There is nothing in the grant law that requires you to file a charter with the state. However, there are several education grants which require filing a charter as a charter school, which includes articles of incorporation.

If you are wanting to get on a list so that you can be notified of grants in general or a specific grant, then you should register your company with that office.

However, for grants in general, there are no charter requirements outside of the articles of incorporation.

You should ask the person you heard this from what she was talking about.
