My Drivers license (WA State) was revoked/suspended for 1 year on 11/28/2005. I still have the actual license in my possesion. What states reciprocate with Washington state? In other words what states can I drive in without being sited for driving while revoked and is there a way to overide this revocation? Thanks!

In 1996 a new Federal law was passed requiring all states to be on the same computer system. This system, called the National Driver Registry, includes all states and Puerto Rico. When a search is done on the license by an officer it will point them to the correct state, Washington in your case, and let them know that you do have a suspended license.

Please do be careful... in some cases driving with a suspended license can become a felony! Be safe!

In Washington, once you are convicted of a DUI your next course of action is to appeal to the Superior Court.

I've got to say that the DUI laws in Washington are pretty clear cut. However, if you can show unreasonable hardship due to not having a license you would have a better chance of an appeal. You may need to go to driving school, etc.

Since your license was suspended for a year I'm assuming you blew higher than a 0.15% ? Unless it was your second conviction in which case it could be under a 0.15%..... You're going to want to weigh the costs of an appeal that may not reduce your sentence by that much. Highering a lawyer will be at least a $1,000 plus some court fees. Would you have a case?

Over riding the court's decision depends on the evidence that was against you. If you did the breathelizer then you are probably going to have to come to terms.

I hope this helps. Please don't forget to "Accept" if it did.

Reply to Ryan's Post: Ryan, This is not a case of DUI but of Hit & Run. Which is not accurate in my case as I did stop and get out of the vehicle (I had the right of way) chew the kids out and left the scene. Sorry to drag this out.

I'm sorry, about 90%+ of our questions where licenses are suspended are DUIs. I should not have assumed!

No need to apologize, you are not dragging it out.

Although you got out of your vehicle, technically you left the scene which is why you got tagged with the hit and run. Section 3 of RCW 46.52.020 states that you must give all of your information to the other people hit by your car. So if you make an appeal you don't really have a case about it not really being a hit and run. Unfortunately, it was.

A judge is much more likely to be sympathetic to a hardship plea. You may be able to get a provisional license for going to work and back, but only after you show that CTRAN/Trimet can't cut it for you.

You'll still have to weigh out your options. The cost of an appeal and how much it would likely reduce your sentence. If you can do the bus/bike/friends/cab routine for 7 more months I would do it. Especially with gas prices being as high as they are. By the time you got in front of a judge you'd be down to 5 months anyway....

Whatever you do, don't get caught driving with a suspended license. When the year is up you can move on and get this behind you. Get caught driving and you could do time.....!

Best of luck to you!

Ryan
