I have rented an apartment for 13 years. The contract that I had signed stated a min. of 7 days notice when you wanted to vacate.

I live in Cerritos, CA. I gave my 7 day notice however, they said that the law has changed to 30 days and they are insisting that I sign an agreement to now vacate in 30 days. Consequently, I have not agreed and they are considering that I have not given any notice.

If it is a law how can it affect a contract that was signed, but I never received a notice?

Your help is appreciated, .
