Typically Creditors get paid from what your mother leaves in her estate when she passes away. This could mean the house, stocks, bank accounts, and possibly even the life insurance monies if the value of the other things is not enough for the debt. However, if you receive the life insurance before the creditors come collecting against your mother, you as heir cannot be responsible for her debts unless you agreed to guarantee payment.
