The Immigration attorney that was consulted when the

The Immigration attorney that was consulted when the Permanent Resident plead guilty to possession with intent, vacated and reduced to midemeanor possession said that the resident couldn't be deported for a misdemeanor. That's not what I've read elsewhere. Any idea why the conflicting information?

You have to realize that law is subject to multiple interpretations by lawyers and judges. The statutes or code sections which are written are guidelines to facilitate in the interpretation of the law.

With that said, the immigration attorney is giving you their first hand professional experience based on what he does on a daily basis in his local community. You should take into account his years of experience and how many of these same issues he has encountered during his professional career. The information you obtained elsewhere may be based on a general assumptions or different scenarios and may be a worst case scenario based on the circumstances. A misdemeanor alone should not be caused for deportation, but if it is a crime involving dishonesty, fraud or questions morality, that can be persuasive in the deportation issue. So it depends.
