I was admitted to a hospital who honors the HIPAA Law, and was admitted into the ER where my daughter in law works as an RN. I asked it not to be made public, as I wasn''t feeling well and didn''t want her talking to me. Later, my son said that 5 minutes after I was admitted the entire ER knew I was there and for what reason. The intake dr. is a good friend of my sons. Question: Is this or is this not an invasion of my privacy and against the HIPAA Law?

I will try to answer your question, but I need a little more information first.

Do you happen to know how the ER personnel learned of your condition? Do you believe it was the intake doctor?

Also, who within the ER knew about your condition? E.g. nurses, doctors, staff, security?

Reply to ADillon's Post: My daughter in law was working at the time, and she did not see me come in, but the doctor who admitted me know that I was her Mother in Law and also knew I was the mother of his friend, my son.

No one knew what I was admitted for until I came to the hospital and explained it to the nurses and doctors. Hope this helps some.
