If the estate has insufficient finds for a funeral and life insurance proceeds are equally deficient, the burden does fall on family to pay funeral costs for the decedent.

Does that mean that even though that deceased left a trust fund for that family member that individual still has to give up their personal trust fund to pay for the deceased funeral even though they left the money to them.

You may choose the form of burial. However, the costs fall on the immediate family. If that means using the trust fund porceeds, that is what must occur.
