According to the AARP, four states-Ohio, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia-and the District of Columbia generally deduct Social Security income from unemployment insurance benefits on a dollar-for-dollar basis. Another 17 states-Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming-deduct some Social Security income (typically half) from unemployment benefits.

Florida does not seem to be one of those states. So, it would seem that he could collect unemployment and still the SS benefit he is receiving.

However, just to be absolutely sure, why not call the unemployment office and ask them.
