Dear hapereden,
A gram is a lot to shoot up if he has been clean, and if the "ice" is pure. Purity of illegal meth on the streets varies and is not controlled.
Over the past 6 years, purity on the street has been dropping. On the other hand, he may not have been as clean as you have been lead to believe.
As little as 50 milligrams in a new user, may cause overdose. However, in a tolerant user 1 gram may provide a beneficial effect rather than overdose.
Tolerance in addicts with regard to ice can lead one to taking near lethal doses. In addition, the meth addict can relapse to almost the same level they were when they began, after years of remission.
I would say, if your husband has been taking meth at 1 gram level, and is taking the Tylenol pm, that he is back on the ice, or never left it for more than a year or two.
By the way: yes, a person can go on 4 or 5 hours sleep every night if they are not on speed.
Me for example. While I was in the military, I rarely got more than 6 hours sleep, and there were days and weeks at a time of getting to bed at midnight and rising at 4 or 4:30 to hold formations. It is possible. Sleep patterns alone should not be an indicator of whether someone is on speed, or any other drug.
It is the combination of behaviors and physical appearance that would indicate being back on the ice. People on ice, in Vietnam and other methamphetamines have been known to stay awake for as long as 3 to 5 days before crashing.
