My boss wants me to train his girlfriend to take my job
Sent to Legal Experts May 07 12:06 PM

my boss has given me 30 notice because is he wants to hire his girlfriend and he wants me to train her. I am part time right now but he wants to make it a full time position for her. When i previously brought up the idea for me his answer was that we can't afford it. Do i have any options here?

Reply to Ed Johnson's Post: I work for a timing company. We have 3 employees and about 25 contactors. We time marathon, triathlons, etc. About 90% of our business is throughout Texas. The rest is the surrounding states. I am not a member of a union and I don't know what a union shop is. When he told me he was letting me go he couldn't give a valid reason. He stated that he liked my work and wished he could keep me but couldn't afford.

Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy),

Under the information given, it is hard to justify a wrongful discharge law suit. This was free will employment, and essentially, the employer can let you for just about any reason they choose.

However, they are not allowed to discharge you (prejudicially-emj)

It may be weak, but I think you might have an EEO complaint. Under the latest EEO rules and regulation, equal opportunity is more than ethnicity and gender related issues.

You should find an attorney who is skilled in employment law and speak to him or her face to face. Most will give you those minutes free, and determine if you have a crediblel case. If you do, they will most likely take the case on contingency.
