I am a Naturopathic Doctor and also Hold a Doctor of Nutrition. I live in Alabama. Can the state, or any state tell you that you can or can't use the title Nutritionist My state say's only Registered Dieticians can use this name? This sounds crazy to me. My Lawyer here say's this is called selective inforcement and they (the state) can't do this. Is this true. Thank you, Dr. Steger

Mr. Kesler, Here is the problem. In Alabama, you must go to a school listed in their listing to take the state Dieticians exam. And the state board will not let me take the exam, because I did not attend one of their schools listed. Even though I have the credentials. They want only Registered Dieticians to be able to use the word Nutritionist. RD's only maintain a BS Degree, I have two Doctorates? That insane.

Mr. Kesler, Thanks again for your expanded answer.
Here is part of the problem also, there are other people in Mobile and other areas of the US that have no qualifications at all and they call themselves Nutritionist including gym owners and health food store personel, and the state has not sent them letters demanding them to quit calling themselves a Nutritionist, Not one just myself. This is not selective inforcement? My attorney said if they sent me anouther letter demanding this, he suggested we sue the state?
