Hi Sam
I can fully appreciate how you feel about having to pay over the odds for car insurance just because you are over 79. Age Concern have been trying to lobby for this discrimination to stop :
http://www.ageconcern.org.uk/AgeConcern/0B9A83D6FD514AF4A9A74A6DA0B57626.asp
but the recent Age Discrimination Legislation only applies to employment and education i fear, though the forthcoming Equalities Act might add on goods and services.
I am 52 and have had a licence since I was 17, so when I am your age I will have the same length of experience and know all too well the pleasure of being able to drive.
I currently insure with Saga for my house contents but not for my car since I got a better deal from Norwich Union but I just wonder if Saga can help:
http://www.saga.co.uk/finance/motor/home.aspI would imagine they should have addressed this because we are their target market.
My mum is 81 and she insures with the Coop still and I am sure she doesnt pay a lot though she has one of those upturned jelly moulds, not the lovely motor you have !
I agree £727 is too high, specially since you have a no claims bonus. Can I ask who you have insured with in the past and for how long? Did they just bump up the rate on your 80th birthday?
What I might also do is put the challenge to an insurance broker and let them try to get you the best deal.
If you need any more help, please ask.
Kindest regards
