Is your plan to make a bridge for foot traffic, or for auto traffic? About how long a distance does the bridge have to span? How deep is the canal? Is there an easement for the canal's right-of-way? Of so, is there an irrigation or drainage agency that owns the right-of-way? Is there always water in the canal or does it flow only after local rainfall? What kind of soil is it on each side of the canal? Are you within the city limits of an incorporated city?
