I recieved a $1500 gift card (from my wife) to Tweeter for my birthday last April. Tweeter is a high end home audio-entertainment store (chain). I have gone to the store several times, but can''t find anything I really want. Their prices are very high and I am not that much of an audiophile. I asked the manager if I could get my money back - even with a 10% fee - and was told no. I emailed the corporate offices and got no answer. Do I have any recource, or am I stuck with this card? If I buy somehting with it and return it the next day, can I demand cash?

Optional Information:
Herndon, Virginia

Already Tried:
1) Asked Manager for refund 2) Emailed Tweeter corporate customer service 3) Tried to sell on Craig's List

Hello,

If your wife has a receipt they may allow a refund though in some cases these stores will not give a refund for the card. As for buying something and returning it they will only refund the money onto a gift card or return card. This is very common and allowable by law.

You will want to look over the refund policy at the store. If Gift Cards are returnable then you can do so if you have a receipt. But most stores refuse returns on these cards and it is often stated at the store and sometimes on the back of the card.

You may want to consider selling the card at a place like Ebay or other gift card selling sites. Most offer full safety privileges on these transactions. Some sites even allow for a swap of the card for full value of another card.

I wish you the best,

Walter

Reply to Walter's Post: Walt,

I appreciate the response. Unfortuneately, these were things I have already considered, or tried. I previously decided to not try eBay because 1) I didn't see anyone else selling Tweeter cards there, 2) I am too nervous that something will go wrong and 3) I am not sure I have exhausted all the other choices. I may try Craig's List again.

I was hoping there might be a legal loophole, but apparently not. I thought of calling the BBB to see if they can help, but haven't gotten around to it.

Thanks again for your thoughts.
