I am looking to hold a sweepstakes/contest for my online business. It is a family oriented website and I would like to offer a prize valued at more than $5,000. I would like to find a corporate sponsor for to help pay for the sweepstakes. In exchange that person will be advertising the sweepstakes/contest on the home page of my website. How do I go about finding a corporate sponsor for the sweepstakes/contest? Is there company that connects people seeking sponsorships?

My first thought was looking for a corporate sponsor is a wonderful marketing tool, but I had a gut feeling that soliciting for contributions for sponsorship for a prize valued at over $5,00 in most cases is difficult not unless you negotiate vacation package with a well known travel firm such as Travelocity, Expedia or Hotwire etc..

As a point of interest Travelocity has a strong mission statement of Corporate Citizenship that nutures community involvement. They happen to have their HQ in TX.

Appliance packages are also a consideration from companies like Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

I ran this past my husband who is VP of business development, sales & marketing for a well known firm and he seemed to agree that it might be easier to direct your efforts toward smaller donations from several sponsors and then market a "gift package valued at $5,000.

The type of business you run has an ideal networking opportunities that has the potential to draw corporate sponsors to advertise on your website, but to potentially participate in donating their products for your clients that participate in a contest or sweepstakes.

For example, you might wish to contact the marketing department at Delta Dental to offer the first month's premium free when a family signs their nanny up for dental insurance.

Delta Dental Plans Association

Oak Brook, Illinois 60523

You could also solicit the Aetna Foundation as they are extremely community and family oriented. In some cases they provide funding and I see the potential of coordinating your services with their "Mom's To Babies" program which is a nationally known, well respected insurance benefit. After all, new Mom's need nannies, baby sitters, etc.

Develop a letter that you can send to all the companies that are kid and family friendly. In the letter let them know of your mission statement, marketing plan and that you are willig to exchange of their product to be used in a contest in exchange for an advertising opportunity. The winner would receive the merchandise directly from the company, for example a case of Pampers directly shipped from Proctor & Gamble

All questions regarding P&G grants should be directed to Tawnia True, P&G at 513-983-2139

The information I have provided is just a start. The firms you can contact with your letter are endless. You can solicit Whole Foods, Dell (for Dell call 1-800-456-3355), Odwalla and Starbucks and other nationally known firms for their products as well.
