Good morning

My husband is the VP of contract he has been with the same company for 14 years 10 in another state and almost 4 in Arizona
His company policy is “at will he works very hard very loyal and has increase the contracts and profit for the company, his supervisor(CEO) a woman had a meeting with him yesterday along with the VP from HR, she told him they are eliminating his position and they are going to combine his dept with another one , she offer him a demotion to a director position and she said she is going to hire an assistant VP to overlook the contracts almost is what he was doing , he ask if he could apply or give him the opportunity , she said she doesn’t think he is qualify and when he offers to show how the dept has increase since he has been on board she said don’t waste your time.

I think this is very personal manner , I saw a email she sent to him a while back where she said I enjoy our visits together and thank you for the nice evening. My husband has taken this woman to dinner every time the anniversary of his job as a thank you and I think she try to do something and my husband back off and now she is taking revenge: also she is having an affair with the president of the company who is also marry and she is a CEO. Please advice

PS: Does the board of director have to agree with the demotion or have something in writing?
Please I need your help; the whole family relocates to Arizona for a better life. I worked for the state for 20 years (too young to retire) and left to come to Arizona with my family

I will appreciate any advice
Thank you
