I was recently terminated by an employer for violating a policy (in my opinion because my boss was out to get me). None the less, I was awarded unemployment in the state of Illinois. The company appealed and I also won my hearing. During this period, in a different part of the country I was offered a position with the same company. I accepted and was given a start date. Because I accepted the offer and had a start date I turned down another offer. Less than a week before I was to start I received a phone call revoking the offer. I wanted to know if I had a possible breech of contract law suit?

You would if the offer was in writing and had a in it a confirmed start date, rate of pay and job position title and you can prove that you accepted the offer before it was revoked. You could then sue the company who made you the offer for breach since that would be a valid employment contract, unless there were conditions in that offer (subject to a bankground check or credit check, etc.) then they would not be in breach.

Good luck. If you have any other related questions please let me know. If you found this answer helpful please accept so I can continue to help others like you in the future. Thank you.

Reply to Bill F.'s Post: There was nothing in writing but I did receive a formal offer over the phone. I was informed of a start date, the store I would be working in, and the position I would be filling. Is there still an opportunity to sue based on an implied contract?
