Judgement

Sent to Legal Experts February 11 01:46 AM

One day a couple years ago I received a letter stating that there was a judgement against me in orange county california. I broke a lease agreement is what the judgement was about on a rental property. I was young and unaware that I did anything wrong. I called the collection agency and asked for proof of this. They would not send me any. He did say the judgement could be renewed every 7 years. So far I have not paid anything to them. What could happen if I continue to ignore this? I now live in N.D. I know that it is a bad mark on my credit. Could they garnish my wages?

Greetings:

The person at the collection agency misinformed you slightly, as the judgment must be renewed every 10 years. The judgment remains active (providing that it is renewed appropriately) until paid in full - and know that interest accrues daily at the rate of 10 percent, here in the State of California.

If the collection agency (or attorney) can locate your place of employment, "yes" - of course, they can and will garnish your wages and perhaps will secure bank levies and place liens on any and all property that you may own......this is allowable.

You can obtain information concerning the judgment by contacting the Orange County Superior Court, please see the link below:

Superior Court of California - County of Orange

To help, you should contact the collection agency and ask for a case number - thus, when you contact the court, they will be able locate the information.......ask for a clerk in the Small Claims Department.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Bright Blessings.
