HOW DO I DEFEND BEING CHARGED WITH ASSAULT CAUSING ACTUAL BODILY HARM
Sent to Legal Experts December 06 07:17 AM

i was recently involved in a dispute with my partners ex and friends. a fight erupted and i am now being charged with assault abh. it was started by a drink and glass being thrown at me to which i lashed out in self defence knocking this woman in the face. i have been harassed by these women for months now and as i have no witnesses the police are charging me with an unprovoked attack. during a fight which followed outside i had a tooth knocked out and variuos facial scratches and bruises but the police are not interested in my side. the case has been sent to the cps but what can i do in the meantime. i have no previous convictions and am just a mum with 3 kids.

THE CASE HAS NOE GONE TO THE CPS AND ANOTHER OF THE WOMEN INVOLVED HAVE PUT ANOTHER ALLEGATION OF ASSAULT AGAINST ME. I FEEL THAT THEY ARE ALL GETTING THEIR STORIES STRAIGHT AND MAKING UP LIES. ON THE NIGHT IN QUESTION I WANTED TO MAKE A COMPLAINT TO THE POLICE AND HAD TWO INDEPENDANT WITNESSES. HOWEVER THE POLICE ADVISED ME TO GO HOME AND THAT IT WAS A DRUNKEN BRAWL. WOULD THIS HELP IN GETTING THE CASE THROWN OUT OF COURT

With the two witnesses and the fact that the officer told you to go home that it was a drunken brawl, it would appear that they gave this up to mutual combat. Arm your attorney with this, and he should at the least be able to get the charges to reduced to Drunk and Disorderly or just Disorderly Conduct, if not completely dropped.

Reply to Richard's Post: the case has now been sent to court and i am pleading not guilty. my attorney is presenting the case that i have been harassed by these people for months and that i acted in self defence. it is now being submitted to crown court for a trial by jury. my attorney says i will have my day in court however i worry that these people will lie through their teeth and although i have evidence through the school headmaster to the harassment i am not sure what trial by jury envolves. my attorney has also told me to put a complaint in against the police as from the start i have been steam rolled by them but i feel this would only exert matters. what happens if these peolple do not even turn up at court??? HELP
